What are royalty levels?

Last Updated: Jul 03, 2017 11:09AM BST

Royalty levels reward authors with higher royalty rates and additional benefits based on the number of premium resources they publish. These rates apply to all resources sold on Tes, but do not apply to free resources.

The royalty levels are as follows:

Gold - 100+ resources = 80% after VAT*
Silver - 50 - 99 resources = 75% after VAT*
Bronze - 10 - 49 resources = 70% after VAT*
New Authors - 1-9 resources = 60% after VAT minus 30p/30c transaction fee

*Resources priced under £3/$3 are subject to a transaction fee - further information can be found here: http://help-resources.tes.co.uk/customer/portal/articles/2832860-how-does-it-work-

For a detailed breakdown of each sale, simply click on any sale in the ‘Sales’ section of your Author Dashboard.

Please note that Royalty amounts can differ from sale to sale due to the following:

VAT on each transaction (where applicable) is deducted from the purchase price, then the royalty rate is calculated thereafter.

The percentage of VAT charged depends on the location of the individual buying the resource (their VAT jurisdiction).

Additionally, (and, unfortunately, this is where it gets most confusing), we don’t always apply VAT to 100% of the purchase amount (the £/$ amount the resource was purchased for) in situations where VAT applies, because in some situations the purchase is made in part with ‘incentive’ credit (credit that Tes grants to the user), which isn’t taxable. So – whenever a purchase includes a percentage amount of incentive credit, the full taxable amount doesn’t equate to the amount the resource was purchased for.  In short – in some instances, authors will be receiving slightly more than the rates advertised; but, never less.
